They met at West Point. Alex was a swim recruit visiting the installment, and Chas was on the swim team. While on her visit, Alex attended the 10th anniversary of September 11th Army football game, where she caught his eye. They talked about their common ground and about the school, but nothing much came of their first encounter.
Alex ultimately decided not to go the West Point route, so she figured that would be the last time she’d talk to Chas. Three years later, Alex received a Facebook message from a cute guy, wondering if she swam at West Point. He had recognized her from that one short visit, and they soon began chatting. Their chat turned into a friendship, and that friendship soon turned into a long-distance relationship, and when Chas flew to California to visit Alex and meet her family, he knew she was the one for him. Soon after, Alex flew home with Chas to meet his family for her birthday.
Squeezing in extended cross-country visits whenever Chas could get a break from school became the norm. After one of those long-term visits, as soon as Alex returned to California, Chas realized he couldn’t be without her. They set a date and decided to move in together. Alex was so excited that she actually coordinated with his friends and planned an early surprise visit – her last visit to Fort Lee. The two decided to stay together from that point forward.
Their relationship progressed quickly, from house hunting in Georgia, to returning back to Virginia, and one life-changing animal shelter visit along the way, Chas knew he was ready for forever. He decided to pop the question in Hawaii, with Alex’s sister and mom in on it. His first attempt during a hike was a royal fail. His plans were crushed by a heat wave, near accident on the edge of a mountain, and a boulder avalanche crashing over the not-so-romantic-anymore planned waterfall destination. For round two, he told Alex he was going to sing karaoke at the Hawaiian Luau, and instead, called his girlfriend to the stage in front of everyone and popped the question! She said YES!
They opted for a beautiful, woodsy, Lake Tahoe wedding on Heavenly Mountain near the ski resort. The private estate they chose could not have been more beautiful. They were married on the top deck, with snow-capped mountains in the background. Their wedding was complete with feeding deer, right off the balcony, hand-written vows from the heart, and of course, gourmet PIZZA! It was a unique, intimate affair for a sweet, loving, and GORGEOUS couple!
